and so our eco village phase 1 got underway

a group of dedicated, enthusiastic workers got together on 11 July 2008 to start with the preparation of our permaculture garden. Some ground-breaking and back-breaking work was done - thanks so much to Carina for her loving guidance, Heidi & Wikus, Natazia, Joseph and Skosana for their energies.

We dug a bed of about 2m x 1m x 1m and filled it layers of compost, flattened tin cans (for the iron), horse manure, egg shells, organic garden waste, straw, creating layers and covering with rich top soil.
Now we wait for earthworms to set up home and for good decomposition to take place.
Some tired backs, lame arms and smiling faces felt a sense of achievement - it's good to get the soil under your nails.
